Jakarta. Indonesia and the Republic of Armenia aim to strengthen diplomatic and trade ties following a meeting between Vice President Jusuf Kalla and Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Jakarta on Tuesday (01/11).

Foreign Minister Retno Masudi said the visit with her Armenian counterpart focused mostly on increasing trade relations.

“Our trade is still considered small with Armenia, but there is a positive signal during the Trade Expo Indonesia, with three [Armenian] business delegations. The concrete result is the Indonesian coffee export, which is only at $350,000,” Retno said.

The ministers forwarded intentions to strengthen education partnerships with a Letter of Intent submitted to Kalla.

“We have also agreed to intensify communication consolidation and signed visa extensions to diplomatic and service passport holders,” Retno said.

Separately, Nalbandian said the opening of an Indonesian Embassy in Armenia would increase relations, particularly in economics and politics.

“The opening will increase cooperation between the two countries, building close proximity among the public with cultural exchanges. But the most important thing is the increasing economy and trade,” Edward said.
