Makassar. The body of 24-year-old Indonesian IT consultant Valenth Alexie Tamboto arrived in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Sunday evening, nearly two months after he was found dead in Armenia under circumstances that his family says have raised suspicions of foul play.

Valenth's body was transported from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport to a funeral home at Grestelina Hospital in Makassar, where relatives gathered ahead of his burial scheduled for Monday, his younger brother Arnold Tamboto said.

Valenth, the eldest of three siblings, had been working in Armenia as an information technology consultant for about three months before his death.

His remains had been held in Armenia for nearly two months as authorities handled legal procedures surrounding the case and officials coordinated their repatriation to Indonesia, Arnold said.

“Because the case is quite complicated and involves a suspected criminal killing, the repatriation process took a long time because it involved different countries,” he said.

According to information received by the family, Valenth was found dead in his room in Armenia on July 15.

Arnold said there were signs when his body was discovered that led the family to suspect he may have been subjected to violence.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation by Armenian authorities, and the family has yet to receive a comprehensive official account of what happened, he said.

“The government is also still having difficulty obtaining clearer information from the authorities there,” Arnold said.

“According to information we received from the Indonesian Embassy, this type of case is rare there. The authorities are still trying to investigate it, and the case remains under investigation.”

Arnold said Valenth had spent only about three months working in Armenia. Before moving there, he had lived in the Philippines for nearly two years.

The family hopes the investigation will establish the circumstances surrounding Valenth's death and that anyone found responsible will face legal proceedings.

They are also seeking the return of Valenth's personal belongings that remain in Armenia.
