Jakarta. The government confirmed it has sufficient funds to support emergency response efforts following the deadly floods and landslides that devastated Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, and is prepared to increase allocations for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) if conditions worsen.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said BNPB still holds a comfortable amount of ready-to-use funds for ongoing emergency operations.

“BNPB still has more than Rp 500 billion ($30.07 million) available and ready to be used,” Purbaya told reporters in Jakarta on Monday evening. He acknowledged, however, that additional funding may be required as the scale of destruction spans three provinces. The mechanism for Additional Budget Allocation (ABT) is ready to be activated at any time based on BNPB’s assessment.

Purbaya urged BNPB not to hesitate in requesting more funds once existing allocations begin to run low, assuring that the Finance Ministry will immediately process ABT disbursement when asked. He added that any top-up would come from the state budget’s disaster emergency reserves.

“If more funds are needed, we’re ready to add them. The allocation is already there,” the minister said.

While Purbaya did not specify how much additional funding could be provided, he emphasized that Indonesia’s fiscal space is strong enough to support both emergency response and future rehabilitation or social protection measures for affected communities.

“It depends on BNPB’s request, but the money is sufficient,” he said.

BNPB reported that the recent floods and landslides, triggered by Cyclone Senyar between November 19 and 28, have killed at least 604 people, left 464 missing, and displaced more than 570,000 residents. The disasters swept through North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh, destroying homes, infrastructure, and farmland.
