Sleman. The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) is considering the nomination of Erina Gudono, the daughter-in-law of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, in the upcoming regent election in Sleman, Yogyakarta province.

Erina Gudono, 27, who married Jokowi’s youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, in December 2022, is a native of Sleman.

If confirmed, her nomination would mark the second political collaboration between Gerindra and the president's family.

Gerindra Chairman Prabowo Subianto has already teamed up with Jokowi’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and the pair is poised to win the Feb. 14 presidential election with around 58 percent of the vote.

Prabowo's popularity has soared since he chose Gibran as his running mate in mid-October.

"We prioritize natives of Sleman during the personnel vetting, so we are considering Erina Gudono in our search for young leaders to be introduced to the local community via Gerindra ahead of the regent election," Sukaptana, the head of Gerindra’s local chapter, said on Tuesday.

However, Sukaptana said he has not directly communicated with Erina about the plan.

Gerindra currently holds six seats in the Sleman Legislative Council and would need to establish a coalition with other members to meet the threshold of 10 seats required to nominate a regent candidate.

Erina’s husband began his political career just last year when he joined the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and was soon appointed as chairman.

Jokowi’s daughter, Kahiyang Ayu, is married to businessman Bobby Nasution, who was later elected as the mayor of Medan.
