Tangerang. National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia has addressed a video showing a fuel leak from one of its aircraft on the runway at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng, Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday.

The video, posted by musician Kunto Aji on Instagram, shows jet fuel leaking from Kunto Aji expressed relief that the aircraft did not take off, writing, “Astaghfirullah (May Allah forgive me), my plane is leaking like this; fortunately, it was discovered, so we didn’t fly,” on his Instagram story @kuntoajiw.

Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra clarified that the affected flight was GA-174, scheduled from Jakarta to Pekanbaru, departing Soekarno-Hatta at 11:50 a.m. Jakarta time. The PK-GFW flight was set to arrive at Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport at 1:35 p.m.

Irfan explained that the issue was discovered by the Pilot in Command (PIC) during a routine pre-takeoff safety procedure. "This procedure is part of the safety manual before departure," Irfan said in a statement.

Following the discovery, supported by a visual report from a passenger, the PIC decided to return the aircraft to the apron for a thorough inspection. The safety of passengers was prioritized, leading to the decision to inspect the fuel spill.

Currently, the 135 passengers on GA-174 have been rebooked on a replacement flight, PK-GMM, which departed at 2:00 p.m. and is scheduled to arrive at 3:45 p.m.
