Jakarta. A new survey by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting indicated that Ganjar Pranowo regains the lead in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election after the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDI-P, formally nominated him as a candidate.

Conducted from April 25-28, the survey involved well-informed voters who have access to the internet and political news sources.

Among this group of voters, the support for Ganjar stands at 20.8 percent, a significant increase from just 13 percent in the same survey conducted three weeks earlier, the pollster said in a press statement on Saturday.

The Central Java governor retakes the lead from Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto who trails at second with 15.8 percent of votes, falling by 2.5 percentage points from the previous survey.

Former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is third with 11.4 percent of votes.

The rise in the support for Ganjar post-PDI-P announcement came at the expense of Prabowo while he also enjoys a new support base from previously undecided voters, SMRC research director Deni Irvani said.

In a hypothetical race of four contenders who have received formal backing from political parties, however, Ganjar and Prabowo remain in a statistical dead heat.

The four candidates include Ganjar, Prabowo, Anies, and Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto.

“If the candidates comprise Airlangga, Anies, Ganjar, and Prabowo, our latest survey among knowledgeable voters shows that Ganjar will get 30.4 percent of votes, compared to Prabowo’s 29.5 percent, Anies’ 19.8 percent, and Airlangga’s 2.9 percent,” Deni said.

Ganjar’s lead over Prabowo is less than the 3.1 percentage points the pollster spared as the margin of error.

“This indicates that Ganjar and Prabowo are heading into a razor-thin race among knowledgeable voters,” Deni said.
