Ganjar Says He Will Respect Court Ruling on His Election Lawsuits
Jakarta. Presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo said on Thursday that his camp will file lawsuits alleging widespread fraud in the Feb. 14 election to the Constitutional Court and vowed to respect whatever verdict is delivered by the court.
Ganjar ranked last in the three-way presidential election with only 16.47 percent of the vote, according to the national vote tally announced by the General Election Commission (KPU) on Wednesday evening.
Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto was declared the election winner with 58.58 percent of the vote, compared to election runner-up Anies Baswedan who received 24.95 percent.
"We will go to the Constitutional Court to expose the widespread fraud that has occurred from the start to the conclusion of the election. The Constitutional Court is the only authorized body to try election disputes," Ganjar said during a news conference in Jakarta, accompanied by his running mate Mohammad Mahfud MD.
The focus of the lawsuit isn’t merely on the results but also on the overall process of the presidential election to “safeguard democracy and enforce the law”, he added.
Ganjar claimed that the legal team of his campaign has collected evidence and testimonies indicating widespread fraud, but he didn’t provide details.
Anies is filing separate motions to challenge the results, but Ganjar said his team isn’t collaborating with Anies’.
"We want everything to proceed fairly without any hidden agenda or collaboration. We simply want to correct what is wrong, and we will sincerely accept whatever the verdict," Ganjar said.
The former Central Java governor denied allegations that he only challenged the results after being confirmed as losing. His campaign has previously lodged complaints of at least 116 suspected violations to the Election Oversight Body (Bawaslu) but received no response.
"So, we rely on the Constitutional Court, which becomes the final legal avenue for election disputes. It’s not that we waited until today to file the lawsuit, but regulations allow us to go to court only after the official announcement by the KPU," Ganjar said.
While several political party leaders in Anies’ camp have congratulated Prabowo on his election victory, Ganjar said he is still awaiting the conclusion of the court trials.
“Other political parties have their own stance, and I respect that,” he said.
