Fallen Indonesian Peacekeeper to Receive Military Honors Upon Return
Tangerang. The body of an Indonesian soldier killed while serving in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon is scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Tuesday, where he will be honored with a full military ceremony.
Corporal (posthumous) Rico Pramudia, 31, was part of Indonesia’s Mechanized Battalion Task Force XXIII-S deployed under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He died after sustaining critical injuries during hostilities in southern Lebanon, the government said.
Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry said Rico was severely wounded by an artillery explosion from an Israeli tank near Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29. He had been receiving medical treatment since the incident but later succumbed to his injuries.
“Due to the severity of his injuries, he passed away despite all efforts to save his life. The Government of Indonesia extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” the ministry said in a statement.
Rico’s death brings the number of Indonesian peacekeepers killed in the latest conflict between Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah to four.
The March 29 incident marked the first Indonesian fatality in the renewed clashes, when Corporal Farizal Romadhon, 27, was killed instantly. A day later, two other Indonesian UNIFIL personnel — Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Muhammad Nur Ichwan — died when an explosion destroyed their convoy vehicle. A preliminary United Nations finding said the March 30 blast was caused by an improvised explosive device, most likely planted by Hezbollah.
Rico’s remains are expected to arrive at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at around 5:35 p.m. local time. The coffin will be draped in Indonesia’s red-and-white flag in recognition of his service and sacrifice.
Following arrival, the body will be transported to the VIP apron at Terminal 3 for a military send-off ceremony scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The ceremony will be led by the commander of the Indonesian Peacekeeping Mission Center.
Honor guards from several elite units of the Indonesian Military (TNI) will take part, including Kopassus (the Army’s special operations unit specializing in counterterrorism and high-risk missions), Kostrad (the Army’s rapid-deployment strategic reserve force), Indonesian Marine Corps, and Kopasgat (the Air Force’s special forces focused on airbase security and combat support), alongside a platoon from the peacekeeping mission unit.
The solemn procession will include a ceremonial drum and bugle performance, accompanying the final honors before the body is flown to Medan for burial with full military rites.
Authorities said logistical preparations, including ambulance transport, military escort, and ceremonial equipment, have been coordinated across units to ensure the tribute proceeds with dignity.
The ceremony marks the state’s highest form of respect for a soldier who died in service of international peacekeeping efforts.
