Jakarta. The body of Indonesian diplomat Zetro Leonardo Purba, who was murdered in Peru earlier this month, arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday evening. His return was met with grief from family members, colleagues, and government officials at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital.

Dozens of condolence wreaths lined the funeral home as a final tribute to the 41-year-old embassy staffer, remembered by friends and colleagues as warm, approachable, and deeply involved in community activities.

The repatriation took nearly 40 hours, with the remains flown along the Lima–Amsterdam–Kuala Lumpur–Jakarta route. Upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the body was transferred directly to the hospital before being taken to his family residence in Ciputat, South Tangerang, for burial preparations.

Zetro was killed on September 1 in a shocking attack while cycling near his apartment in the Lince district of Lima. Peruvian authorities confirmed the diplomat was the victim of a targeted shooting carried out by a hired gunman. Peru’s Interior Minister Carlos Malaver said that the incident was not a robbery, noting that the assailant shot Zetro without taking any of his belongings.

The case has rattled Indonesia’s diplomatic community in Peru, where Zetro was known for his social engagement and close ties with local and expatriate communities.

Peru’s National Police continue to investigate, pursuing the perpetrators of what officials describe as a contract killing. The Indonesian government has pledged to maintain close coordination with Peruvian authorities to ensure the investigation is conducted transparently and that those responsible are brought to justice.
