Jakarta. The counter-terrorism squad Detachment 88 has arrested seven suspected militants during recent operations in Central Sulawesi province.

Limited information has been provided as investigations are ongoing, but a spokesman for the squad confirmed the arrests on Thursday.

"It is indeed true that we have made arrests. An intensive investigation is currently underway," Chief Comr. Aswin Siregar said in Jakarta.

Earlier, Central Sulawesi Police Chief Insp. Gen. Agus Nugroho revealed that seven suspected members of the shadowy militant group Jemaah Islamiyah were arrested by the squad on Tuesday.

"According to the information we have gathered, the suspects include four individuals from the city of Palu, two from Sigi regency, and one from Poso regency," Agus said. The identities of the suspects were provided in their initials.

Additionally, the squad conducted searches at two houses on Lagarutu Street in Palu and seized laptops and cellphones. The bomb disposal unit was also dispatched to a house in the village of Kalukubula, Sigi, the officer added.

Jemaah Islamiyah has been designated as a regional terror group by several governments. It's responsible for a series of deadly attacks in Indonesia in the 2000s, including the October 2002 Bali bombings that killed more than 200 people.
