Jakarta. Former policeman Richard Eliezer, who served time in prison for fatally shooting a fellow officer, exchanged vows with his girlfriend at a Catholic church in Manado on Saturday.

Richard admitted to the fatal shooting of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat on July 8, 2022, in a high-profile murder case that implicated police general Ferdy Sambo as the mastermind.

Despite his admission, Richard received a relatively lenient sentence of 18 months in prison. The panel of judges acknowledged his cooperation as a whistleblower, which was instrumental in uncovering evidence and thwarting attempts at evidence tampering and cover-ups orchestrated by Ferdy and his inner circle.

Initially sentenced to death, Ferdy had his sentence commuted to life imprisonment upon appeal to the Supreme Court last August. Richard, on the other hand, received parole for good behavior while serving his sentence.

The wedding ceremony of Richard and his girlfriend Duce Maria Angeline, affectionately known as Ling Ling, was shared on Instagram by his attorney, Ronny Talapessy.

"May God bless Richard and Ling Ling with a lifetime of harmony and offspring," read the caption accompanying the photo of the couple's nuptial mass at Raja Damai Tikala Catholic Church in Manado, officiated by Priest John Bomba.

Maintaining a low profile since his conviction, Richard completed his probation on January 31, while his co-convicts still have years left to serve in prison.

Ferdy's wife, Putri Candrawathi, convicted as an accessory to the murder, is serving a 10-year prison term. Similarly, the couple’s personal assistant, Kuat Ma’ruf, and former policeman Ricky Rizal, received sentences of 10 years and eight years respectively for their roles in assisting Ferdy and failing to report the crime.

Yosua was fatally shot multiple times at close range by Richard inside Ferdy's official residence in South Jakarta. Ferdy, present during the shooting, was also found guilty of obstructing justice by tampering with the crime scene and influencing the initial responders.

Initially claiming that Yosua died in a shootout with Richard, Ferdy's attempts to obstruct justice were later exposed by a new team of investigators established by National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Testimonies from Richard and others ultimately revealed that Yosua was unarmed and murdered on Ferdy’s orders.

Six other officers received prison sentences ranging from 10 months to three years for their roles in obstructing justice during the investigation.
