Jakarta. The daughter of former Indonesian police general Ferdy Sambo, who is serving a life sentence for orchestrating a high-profile murder, graduated as a medical doctor on Wednesday after completing her professional medical training at Trisakti University in Jakarta.

Trisha Eungelica Ardyadana, the eldest daughter of Ferdy and Putri Candrawathi, attended the graduation ceremony without either of her parents, both of whom are imprisoned over the murder case.

“I want to be a devoted daughter and make my parents proud. I dedicate this achievement to my mother and father, who could not be here today,” Trisha said after the ceremony at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta.

She said completing seven years of medical education had been emotionally challenging, particularly amid the upheaval surrounding her family.

“These seven years have been filled with both laughter and tears. But with the support and motivation from my parents, I kept encouraging myself to move forward,” she said.

After officially becoming a doctor, Trisha said she plans to continue her studies in a medical specialty field, though she has not yet decided which discipline to pursue.

The ceremony was attended by her grandmother, Frederyca Wayan, who expressed pride in her granddaughter’s achievement.

“She is a good child. I am very proud that she has now become a doctor,” Frederyca said.

Ferdy Sambo was convicted of orchestrating the murder of his former aide, Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat, in a case that drew nationwide attention and intensified scrutiny of Indonesia’s police force.

The South Jakarta District Court sentenced Sambo to death in February 2023, a ruling later upheld on appeal. However, Indonesia’s Supreme Court commuted the sentence to life imprisonment in August 2023, citing his three decades of service in the National Police.

Putri Candrawathi, who was convicted as an accessory to the murder, is serving a 10-year sentence at a women’s prison in Tangerang, Banten.
