Denpasar. Two foreign tourists, one of whom is an Australian woman, were found dead after heavy rain triggered a landslide that swept through the villa where they were staying in Jatiluwih Village in Tabanan, Bali on Thursday.

According to local disaster mitigation official I Nyoman Srinadha Giri, the villa was hit by the landslide on Thursday morning, triggered by the previous night's downpour that eroded the water channels used for irrigation above the villa.

"The victims were found in the same bed and have been evacuated from the rubble," he reported. The female victim, aged 47 and an Australian national with permanent residency in the United States, was identified. However, the identity and nationality of the male victim remain unknown.

The bodies of the victims were transferred to a hospital in Denpasar, the provincial capital.

In response to the incident, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Denpasar issued an early warning for severe weather in Bali from March 15 to 17 due to the formation of tropical cyclone seedling 91S in the southeastern Indian Ocean and 94S on the northern coast of Australia.

BMKG Denpasar Head, Cahyo Nugroho, urged the public to stay vigilant against potential disaster impacts, including strong winds, fallen trees, lightning, flooding, and landslides.

BMKG Denpasar identified several areas in Bali with the potential for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and brief periods of strong winds during this early warning period.

These areas include Buleleng, Gianyar, Klungkung, Jembrana, Bangli, Badung, and Tabanan on March 15, Buleleng, Karangasem, Tabanan, Bangli, Klungkung, and Gianyar on March 16, and Buleleng, Karangasem, Jembrana, Tabanan, and Bangli on March 17.

Additionally, BMKG Denpasar highlighted several tourist beaches in Bali prone to tidal floods or coastal flooding, including Soka Beach and Tanah Lot Beach in Tabanan Regency, Canggu Beach, Kuta Beach, Nusa Dua Beach in Badung Regency, and Sanur Beach in Denpasar City.
