103 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Bali Villa Raid for Permit Abuse, Cybercrime Allegations
Jakarta. Hundreds of foreign nationals were arrested by immigration officials for misusing their residence permits and suspected cybercrimes.
Silmy Karim, Director General of Immigration at the Law and Human Rights Ministry, reported that the Bali Becik surveillance operation led to the capture of 103 foreign nationals at a villa in Bali.
"Among them are 14 Taiwanese nationals; identities of others are under investigation," he said Thursday.
Safar Muhammad Godam, Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement, explained the operation took place Wednesday at a villa in Marga District, Tabanan Regency, Bali.
"At 2:00 p.m. local time, information was received about foreign nationals there. After the briefing, the team moved in and by 5:00 p.m., arrested 103 foreigners, including 12 women and 91 men," he said.
Safar said the suspects lacked proper documentation and misused immigration permits. They're also suspected of cybercrimes.
"We're probing potential cybercrimes, given the many computers and phones found," he said.
By 6:00 p.m., the Bali Becik team detained all. Suspects will be examined and held at Bali Immigration Detention Center.
"Surveillance spans Indonesia. Foreigners' crimes are frequent. Our actions also aid the Online Gambling Eradication Task Force," Silmy said.
