Tangerang. Pollution, intense tropical sunlight, stress, and lack of sleep are increasingly linked to accelerated skin aging, prompting a shift toward skin care strategies that go beyond topical products to include protection from within the body.

Dermatologically, oxidative stress is seen as a key driver of aging and inflammation. Antioxidants such as astaxanthin, a natural compound found in algae and seafood, are known to neutralize free radicals, support collagen quality, and help protect skin from ultraviolet-induced photoaging. Studies suggest that consumption at certain doses may provide optimal antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits and is considered safe for long-term use, reinforcing growing interest in internal skin protection amid urban lifestyles and environmental exposure.

Topical care, meanwhile, is moving toward regenerative solutions. One widely discussed ingredient in aesthetic dermatology is PDRN, inspired by salmon DNA and associated with tissue repair.

Dermatologist dr. Litya Ayu Anindya said PDRN helps slow cellular damage while supporting repair of damaged DNA, potentially reducing fine wrinkles and loss of elasticity. “PDRN works by helping stop cell damage and supporting the repair of damaged DNA, so it may help improve wrinkles, fine lines, and skin firmness,” she said, adding that plant-based alternatives are being explored for sustainability with comparable effectiveness. She noted that pairing PDRN with micro-delivery technology can enhance absorption, hydration, and overall topical efficacy.

This holistic approach increasingly combines internal antioxidant intake and external regenerative treatment. Astaxanthin-based supplements such as ASTRIA are positioned to support skin health from within, while topical lines like LA PLANTE apply PDRN with micro-needle delivery to aid regeneration from the outside.

Awareness of premature aging is also rising. A 2021 JakPat survey found that most Indonesian women view early aging as a serious concern, reflecting a shift toward seeing skin care as part of long-term health rather than aesthetics alone.

Public figure Melaney Ricardo echoed the need for a comprehensive approach. “Aging is inevitable, but how we age is a choice. Skin care has to be holistic; it cannot rely on just one approach,” she said.

The discussion formed part of the SKIN-Talk ASTRIA x LA PLANTE hosted by Landson in PIK 2, Tangerang, marking the launch of the ASTRIA ULTRA supplement variant and the LA PLANTE skin care line centered on internal protection and external regeneration.
