Jakarta. Ten tourism packages made available by the Ministry of Tourism and the North Sumatra provincial government have been successful in attracting more foreign visitors to Lake Toba.

The program is supported by Silangit Airport, which recently gained international status.

Lake Toba Tourism Authority (BOPDT) chairman Arie Prasetyo said a group of tourists from Singapore greatly enjoyed their visit to Huta Siallagan on Samosir Island.

"The tourists participated in a Lake Toba promotional tour package, organized by the Ministry of Tourism, North Sumatra provincial government and eight districts around Lake Toba," Arie said in a statement on Tuesday (28/11).

The tourists flew in on Oct. 28 and visited Lake Toba and the Garden of Eden, an ecotourism site in Toba Samosir district.

They also visited waterfalls and participated in a fruit picking activity and gorga carving demos. Gorga is a form of artistic decoration found in the culture of the Toba Batak people.

The four-day, three-night tour package concluded with a cultural night at TB Silalahi Museum, presented by the local government.

"They were very happy with these programs," Arie said.
