Sandiaga Uno Wants Iron Maiden and Metallica to Perform in Indonesia Once More
Jakarta. Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno wishes for legendary heavy metal bands Iron Maiden and Metallica to perform again in Indonesia.
His remarks came after the successful performance of another American band Slipknot, which drew thousands of spectators to Jakarta’s coastal resort Ancol on Sunday and signaled a revival in the so-called music tourism.
“And I hope Iron Maiden and Metallica will come back to Indonesia,” Sandiaga said.
Metallica and Iron Maiden last performed in Indonesia in 2013 and 2011, respectively.
Earlier this month, British famous hard rock band Deep Purple held a concert in the Central Java town of Surakarta attended by President Joko Widodo, a passionate fan of rock music.
Slipknot, known for their aggressive and chaotic stage shows, came as the main performer of the two-day Hammersonic music festival last weekend.
Prior to the Jakarta show, Slipknot members made a leisure trip to Bali Island.
“They enjoyed the nature in Bali, specifically in Ubud, and participated in handicraft making. Apparently, behind their aggressive stage performance, they also love nature and Indonesian culture, this is cool,” Sandiaga said.
The festival brought together five stages featuring local and international rock bands such as Vulvodynia, Defying Decay, Hollykillers, Stillbirth, Burgerkill, Muntah Kawat, Jeruji, Within Destruction, Revenge The Fat, Tiny Moving Parts, Straight Out, Sinister, World Of Men, Dreamer, For Revenge, Batushka, Knosis, Disentomb, Deez Nuts, Born Of Osiris, and Watain.
First held in 2012, Hammersonic is the biggest rock and metal music festival in Southeast Asia that comes every year. It made a comeback last weekend after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
