Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) in West Nusa Tenggara attracted 72,528 domestic and international visitors from January to October 2025, with non-hiking attractions emerging as a major draw, park authorities said on Friday.

“The Rinjani National Park area continues to attract both local and foreign tourists, with total visits reaching 72,528 at our hiking destinations,” TNGR head Yarman said in Mataram, as quoted by state news agency Antara.

Non-hiking sites located around the foothills of Mount Rinjani have reopened after being temporarily closed earlier this year due to extreme weather in February. These attractions now account for more than half of all visits, drawing 43,502 tourists.

Key non-hiking destinations include Tangkok Adeng in Lenek Duren village; Bornong Bike Park in Aik Prapa; Bukit Malang via Tombong Rebo in Bebidas village; Sebau in Sapit; Savana Propok and Bukit Gedong in Wanasaba; as well as the Sembalun cycling route in Sembalun village, East Lombok.

Yarman urged visitors, especially hikers, to remain cautious during the 2025 rainy season. “When the rain comes, hikers must be wise and stay alert while exploring Mount Rinjani,” he said.

He added that Rinjani remains enchanting even under steady rainfall, but climbing during the wet season requires more than determination. “Rain is not a barrier to loving nature, it’s a reminder to act wisely within it. Let the rain fall, but don’t let your vigilance fade.”

Rainy-Season Hiking Tips

The park authority advised trekkers to check weather forecasts and trail status before departure. Hikers are encouraged to bring waterproof gear such as raincoats, bag covers, dry bags, and water-resistant footwear.

Maintaining body heat and energy is essential, Yarman said, recommending warm clothing, high-calorie food, and hot water in insulated flasks.

“Stay focused and alert on slippery trails,” he added, emphasizing that safety must take priority.

“The summit is not everything, returning home safely is what truly matters.”
