Nuanu Says MSME Contributions in Bali Reach Rp 70 B
Jakarta. Nuanu Creative City says it has contributed an estimated Rp 60 billion to Rp 70 billion ($3.8 million) to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as the Bali-based development seeks to expand commercial opportunities for local businesses through its growing ecosystem.
CEO Lev Kroll said Nuanu works with local suppliers, contractors, artists and other small businesses, with arrangements ranging from project-based contracts to longer-term partnerships.
“I think local MSMEs, in the past few years, I think we contributed around 60 to 70 billion in rupiah to MSMEs,” Lev said.
He said the company seeks to identify promising local businesses and give them opportunities to work across different projects within Nuanu and its wider network of investors.
Rather than centralizing the selection of suppliers and creative partners, Nuanu gives its teams, partners and investors considerable autonomy to choose businesses for specific projects, provided they share the company's values.
Lev said this approach allows different teams to identify partners suited to their needs while creating opportunities for businesses to demonstrate their capabilities.
Nuanu also seeks to help successful suppliers secure further work through recommendations to other projects and investors in its network.
“If you deliver, you are recommended to other businesses. If you deliver there, you grow,” Lev said, describing how a supplier's track record can lead to further commercial opportunities.
He said some businesses have expanded alongside Nuanu after first being identified by an individual project or team. The company aims to build long-term relationships with reliable partners, introducing them to other projects when their work meets expectations.
Nuanu generally prefers working with smaller businesses where possible, Lev said, although he acknowledged that some businesses may struggle to meet expectations or grow to the required scale.
The company therefore continues to search for potential partners, starting with businesses in nearby communities before looking more broadly for suitable suppliers.
“We generally prefer to work with smaller businesses because we think that it usually comes with high attention to detail,” he said.
Nuanu also plans to create more space for local businesses through Sutala Market, a curated commercial and food-and-beverage area scheduled to launch in 2027. The development intends to open the market to both investors and local businesses, giving restaurants and other commercial operators a place to reach Nuanu's residents and visitors.
Lev said the goal is to provide a wider range of choices while maintaining standards for quality and customer experience.
The market is also part of Nuanu's effort to concentrate commercial activity in a planned space rather than allow businesses to spread indefinitely along surrounding roads.
For Nuanu, the broader objective is to create an environment where local businesses can access customers and commercial partners without having to build their own networks from scratch.
Lev Kroll said the company sees its role as creating opportunities and connecting businesses, while allowing partners to grow through the quality of their work.
