Bogor. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's daughter Kahiyang Ayu celebrated her graduation from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, or IPB, in West Java, on Wednesday. She completed her postgraduate business degree with cum laude two years ago but took maternity leave before finally receiving her degree yesterday.

"I graduated two years ago, but then marriage and pregnancy got in the way. I've been spending my time taking care of my young child. That's why I delayed my graduation ceremony until today," Kahiyang told Antara news agency.

Her supervisor, Arief Daryanto, said Kahiyang completed her study in less than two years with an exceptional grade point average of 3.90.

"It was all plain sailing for Kahiyang because she chose a thesis topic that was very relevant to her interest and expertise," Arief said. 

Kahiyang wrote her postgraduate thesis on the competitiveness of a state-run plantation company in East Java.

"[Even though] she was the president's daughter, she refused any special treatment. She also kept a low profile, just like any other students here," Arief said.

Kahiyang celebrated her graduation with her husband Bobby Nasution, who also received a postgraduate degree from IPB on the same day. 

"It's a coincidence that Bobby also graduated today. Congratulations to the president and his family," IPB rector Arif Satria said after the ceremony.
