Jakarta. As of February 2026, holders of Indonesian passports can travel to 88 countries and territories without needing a conventional visa, according to the latest Passport Index rankings and official confirmation from Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration.

The mobility enhancement includes destinations offering visa-free entry, visa on arrival (VoA), and electronic travel authorization (eTA) arrangements, boosting Indonesians’ global travel reach and international mobility.

Immigration authorities attributed the gains to expanding bilateral relations, international cooperation, and immigration diplomacy, which have helped secure more favorable entry terms for Indonesian citizens.

With the updated count, the Indonesian passport’s mobility score stands at 88, allowing access — without traditional visa procedures — to roughly 44–45% of the world’s countries. The passport is ranked in the upper half of global mobility indices, showing a significant improvement compared with previous years.

How the 88 Countries Are Categorized
Under the current framework, the 88 destinations fall into three main categories:

• Visa-Free Countries (42) — No visa is required for short stays.
• Visa on Arrival (41) — Travelers obtain a visa upon arrival at the border.
• Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) (5) — A simplified online pre-authorization is required before departure.

Angola, Barbados, Belarus, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Dominica, Ecuador, Fiji, Gambia, Guyana, Haiti, Hong Kong, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mali, Micronesia, Morocco, Myanmar, Namibia, Palestinian Territories, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Serbia, Singapore, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tunisia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Other Easier Entry Arrangements

• Visa on Arrival (VoA): Countries such as Armenia, Bangladesh, India, Jordan, Nepal, Qatar, Russia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda and Ukraine offer VoA facilities for Indonesian passport holders.
• Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA): Nations including Japan, Kenya, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Ivory Coast, and Seychelles allow entry with an eTA waiver.

What This Means for Indonesian Travelers
The expanded access is expected to widen opportunities for tourism, business travel, family visits, education and cultural exchange, reducing administrative barriers for Indonesian nationals. However, travelers still must meet each destination’s entry requirements — such as passport validity, proof of return tickets, and funds — even when visas are not required.

Despite progress, Indonesia’s passport strength still trails behind some neighboring countries. For example, Singapore’s passport offers visa-free access to more than 190 destinations, consistently ranking among the world’s most powerful.
