Denpasar, Bali. The Bali provincial government is expanding the promotion of arak Bali at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, calling on airport operator Angkasa Pura to give greater space to the traditional spirit in duty-free areas frequented by foreign travelers.

Speaking during an inspection of the airport’s international terminal on Monday, Governor Wayan Koster said arak Bali should be displayed in strategic locations near international arrival and departure areas to boost its visibility among overseas travelers.

Koster said the initiative is part of a broader effort to preserve arak Bali as a traditional product while ensuring economic benefits for local communities. “We want to ensure that preserving arak Bali also supports local producers and contributes to the local economy,” Koster said.

The Bali government has introduced measures to protect traditional arak makers and improve product standards so they can compete with imported alcoholic beverages. Although the number of registered brands remains limited, arak Bali has been available at selected outlets at Ngurah Rai Airport since last year.

To strengthen its international appeal, the government plans to showcase arak Bali in a dedicated display highlighting traditional Balinese fermented and distilled beverages. Koster also encouraged the use of Balinese script on product packaging, with coordination underway between Angkasa Pura and the provincial Industry and Trade Agency to ensure regulatory compliance.

According to data from the Bali Arak Association (Tresnaning Arak Bali), 58 officially registered brands have been cleared for distribution at airport outlets.
