Waskita Karya Eyes Rp 2 Trillion in Saudi Projects After Prabowo’s Visit
Jakarta. Indonesian state-owned construction company Waskita Karya is aiming to secure infrastructure contracts in Saudi Arabia worth up to Rp 2 trillion (approximately $120 million), following President Prabowo Subianto’s recent state visit to the kingdom.
The potential projects include airport and stadium renovations, according to Waskita’s corporate secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita. The effort was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed between Waskita’s Saudi representative, Jatmiko Wibowo, and Amin Alshanqiti, CEO of Saudi Arabia’s Planning and Development Co. Ltd (Pladco).
“The company aims to win contracts valued between Rp 1 trillion and Rp 2 trillion across several joint venture projects,” Ermy said in a statement on Sunday.
Waskita is currently participating in an open tender to renovate Runway 3 of King Salman International Airport and is also partnering with Pladco to bid for an additional runway project at the same location.
Ermy said Waskita’s proven track record in large-scale infrastructure projects positions it as a competitive subcontractor for international construction ventures. If awarded the contracts, the company will provide skilled labor and engineering expertise.
“We hope this collaboration will enhance our prospects of securing larger projects in Saudi Arabia,” she added.
President Prabowo’s visit to Saudi Arabia earlier this week resulted in business deals totaling $27 billion, following high-level talks with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.
A joint statement from both governments said the agreements covered a range of sectors including clean energy, petrochemical industries, and aviation fuel services, reflecting both countries’ aspirations for a stronger economic partnership.
According to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, the agreements included several business-to-business memoranda of understanding (MoUs) involving major state-owned enterprises (SOEs).
Among them, Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara signed an MoU with Saudi energy giant ACWA Power to develop a 10-gigawatt renewable energy project. State oil company Pertamina also reached an agreement with ACWA Power for projects generating up to 500 megawatts of clean energy, while its commercial arm Pertamina Patra Niaga will collaborate with Alshams on jet fuel services.
Meanwhile, Waskita Karya and Pladco have agreed to partner on construction initiatives as part of the broader push to deepen Indonesia-Saudi business cooperation.
