Upcoming Festival to Zero In on Indonesia’s Energy Self-Sufficiency Dream
Jakarta. An upcoming two-day festival will zero in on Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency dream.
The 2025 Energi dan Mineral Festival is set to take place in Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta, on July 30-31. The forum will bring together stakeholders in the energy sector amid President Prabowo Subianto’s dream of making Indonesia self-sufficient in energy in the coming years. Indonesia’s industrialization of its minerals will also be a major talking point at the conference.
Energy Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia told a news conference on Wednesday that the government had prepared some strategies to boost domestic supply. This includes the rollout of a ministerial regulation that would boost the national oil lifting. The ministry has also submitted a pre-feasibility study on the downstream development to the sovereign wealth fund Danantara.
"We have prepared a roadmap that lays out how we will generate our electricity over the next 10 years, including having over 60 percent of renewables in our energy mix,” Dwi said.
“This upcoming forum provides space for collaboration for all parties, not just the government, but also industry players, academicians, and the general public, particularly the youth. If we don’t start, we won’t make progress in energy self-sufficiency,” Dwi told the press.
Djaka Susila, chairman of the 2025 Energi dan Mineral Festival's organizing committee, said the upcoming conference also seeks to introduce the huge potential that Indonesia possesses.
"There will be a showcase of the entire supply chain of minerals, as well as power generation from renewables. We hope to provide a comprehensive understanding for young people because they hold the baton of Indonesia's future. We will bring something different to this forum," said Djaka, who is also the chief editor of Investor Daily newspaper.
Likewise, Hendra Sinadia, the executive director of the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), also acknowledged the youth's crucial role.
“The younger generation is the one who will realize our country's ambitions. ... It's important for them to not only gain the full picture [of the energy and mining sector]. Hopefully, this will improve the public perception of mining activities,” Hendra said.
