Jakarta. Trade Minister Budi Santoso said prices of essential food commodities remain broadly stable and supplies are sufficient ahead of the 1447 Hijri Eid al-Fitr holiday, as the government intensifies market monitoring to prevent excessive price increases.

Budi said the government will continue conducting direct inspections in traditional markets to ensure availability and keep prices within the official reference limits set by the government.

“Direct checks in markets can psychologically influence traders not to sell at excessively high prices or above the highest retail price. We will continue carrying out these inspections,” Budi said during a visit to Rawasari Market in Jakarta on Monday.

According to the ministry’s monitoring at Rawasari Market, several key commodities are still trading within reasonable price ranges. Broiler chicken was selling at around Rp 40,000 or approx. $2.35 per kilogram, in line with the government’s reference price, while shallots were priced at roughly Rp 40,000 per kilogram, slightly below the reference ceiling of Rp 41,500.

The government’s subsidized cooking oil brand Minyakita was selling at about Rp 15,700 per liter, close to the government’s highest retail price limit.

Budi added that the government is also encouraging the supply of alternative cooking oil brands to give consumers more affordable options.

“Other cooking oil brands or second-tier brands are meant to complement Minyakita. This way, people do not rely on just one brand and still have access to affordable cooking oil choices,” he said.

Despite the overall stability, several commodities have seen slight price increases, particularly bird’s eye chilies and eggs, driven by rising demand ahead of Eid.

However, Budi said the increases remain within a normal range. The government will continue monitoring price movements and supply through the Basic Necessities and Market Monitoring System (SP2KP).

He said the system currently tracks prices at around 550 markets nationwide on a daily basis.

“Every day, we receive reports from regions across the country. Around 550 markets are monitored regularly to track price developments,” Budi said.

Based on SP2KP data as of March 13, 2026, medium-grade rice was priced at Rp 13,680 per kilogram, while premium rice stood at Rp 15,342 per kilogram.

Minyakita was recorded at Rp 15,872 per liter, while premium cooking oil averaged Rp 21,180 per liter.

Meanwhile, broiler chicken was priced at Rp 40,462 per kilogram, and eggs at Rp 30,879 per kilogram.

For other commodities, curly red chilies were recorded at Rp 39,790 per kilogram, bird’s eye chilies at Rp 78,079 per kilogram, large red chilies at Rp 41,630 per kilogram, shallots at Rp 39,934 per kilogram, and garlic at Rp 36,146 per kilogram.
