Purbaya Dismisses Health Concerns with Mall Visit, Social Media Posts
Jakarta. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa on Sunday appeared in public and shared social media posts aimed at dispelling speculation about his health, following rumors that he had been hospitalized.
Purbaya uploaded a photo of himself visiting Senayan City in Jakarta with his wife, countering claims that he was receiving medical treatment. In a separate post, he shared an image of himself swimming, accompanied by a message encouraging younger Indonesians to maintain an active lifestyle.
“Good morning, guys. Gen Z, don’t forget to exercise -- whether swimming, running, or playing padel. I personally prefer swimming,” he wrote.
Public speculation about his condition had emerged after Purbaya acknowledged experiencing back pain and needing assistance to stand from a seated position. Concerns intensified after he abruptly postponed a scheduled late-April press briefing on the state budget.
Finance Ministry spokesperson Deni Surjantoro denied reports that the minister had been hospitalized. “He is in good health,” Deni said.
Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung added that the press conference had been rescheduled to align with the release of economic growth data by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which is due on May 5.
