OJK System Begins Collecting Data on Unpaid Online Loans
Jakarta. Online lenders have begun submitting the data on unpaid loans to a system run by the Financial Services Authority or OJK, as many Indonesians miss their payment deadlines.
A 2024 OJK regulation states that all online lending platforms must sign up to the Financial Information Service System (SLIK) no later than the end of July 2025. SLIK is an information system run by OJK that lays out people’s credit history, enabling banks and other financing companies to assess the eligibility of prospective borrowers. Online lenders and insurance companies also have access to the system.
“All online lending platforms can submit reports [or data] to the SLIK. These platforms must submit their first debtor report no later than 12 months [after being able to report to the system],” OJK’s head supervisor for financing institutions Agusman told reporters over the weekend.
This allows businesses to ensure the quality of the data on their first report in order to meet SLIK’s standards on transparency and accuracy. The report includes the debtor's identity and finances, collateral, the used funding facilities, and the guarantor, among others.
According to Agusman, the SLIK system ultimately facilitates credit distribution and does not seek to prevent people from getting loans.
Taking out online loans, locally known as pinjaman online ('pinjol'), has significantly grown in popularity over the years, but not everyone can return the money.
As of July 2025, Indonesians’ outstanding loans on online lenders reached Rp 84.66 trillion ($5.1 billion), up by 22.01 percent year-on-year. This growth reflects the contribution of online lending platforms in providing financing to the country’s micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), as well as underserved communities.
“We think online lenders will play a bigger role in driving the economy as they expand their contribution to productive financing and MSMEs,” Agusman said.
