Jakarta. Indonesia’s benchmark Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) opened firmly higher on Wednesday, climbing 25.48 points, or 0.29%, to 8,959.09 and setting a fresh intraday all-time high.

The index traded in a narrow green range of 8,948–8,970 in early dealings, extending its record-breaking run after posting both intraday and closing highs in the previous session. On Tuesday, the JCI hit a prior intraday peak of 8,940 and closed at a record 8,933.

RTI data showed 2.64 billion shares changing hands in early trade, with turnover reaching Rp 1.49 trillion ($88.81 million) across 184,480 transactions. Market breadth was positive, with 315 stocks advancing, 155 declining, and 208 unchanged.

BRI Danareksa Sekuritas said gains were driven mainly by commodity stocks, particularly nickel and gold, amid rising global commodity prices. Investors, however, remain cautious, monitoring escalating US–Venezuela geopolitical tensions that could impact commodity prices and related sectors.

Overnight, Wall Street rallied to fresh records, led by technology stocks. The S&P 500 rose 0.6% to 6,944.82, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1% to 49,462.08, marking its second straight record close. The Nasdaq Composite also added 0.6% to 23,547.17.

In Asia, markets were mixed. Japan’s Nikkei slipped 0.71% at the open, while South Korea’s Kospi advanced 0.90%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.41%, and China’s Shanghai Composite hovered around the flat line in early trading.
