Jakarta. Jakarta stocks rose 0.46% on Friday as investors weighed domestic economic signals, including Indonesia’s widening trade surplus, against concerns over escalating tensions between the United States and Iran and their potential impact on oil prices and inflation.

Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) gained 27 points to close at 6,036, after moving between 5,979 and 6,053 during the session.

Trading volume reached 121.54 billion shares, with a total transaction value of Rp 12.25 trillion ($684.53 million) and more than 1.6 million transactions. A total of 319 stocks advanced, while 337 declined and 134 remained unchanged.

Domestically, Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said investors were assessing the policy direction following the latest Cabinet reshuffle, particularly its implications for economic policy continuity and the implementation of government programs.

“The changes in the government’s composition are drawing market attention, as investors need to assess the continuity of economic policies and the implementation of government programs,” Pilarmas said in its research note on Friday.

Indonesia’s wider trade surplus in August provided a positive signal. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded a $3.55 billion surplus, up sharply from $120 million in July.

Investors will also monitor several domestic economic indicators scheduled for release next week, including September foreign exchange reserves, the consumer confidence index and August retail sales, Pilarmas said.

However, escalating tensions in the Middle East continued to weigh on market sentiment. The conflict between the United States and Iran could push oil prices higher and fuel inflation concerns.

Pilarmas said investors were monitoring developments after reports emerged of a possible deployment of a US aircraft carrier and additional troops to the region.

“The escalation could disrupt global energy supplies and keep oil prices elevated,” Pilarmas said.

Higher oil prices remain a concern because they could intensify inflationary pressures and influence expectations for interest rate policy, potentially making investors more cautious about buying riskier assets.

Across Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.9%, while South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.5%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dropped 2.6%. Mainland Chinese markets were closed for a public holiday.
