Jakarta. Indonesian stocks opened higher on Tuesday as investors awaited a fresh batch of domestic economic data, including August inflation, July trade figures, and manufacturing activity.

Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) gained 12 points, or 0.19%, to 6,538 in early trading, moving within a range of 6,535 to 6,556.

According to RTI data, 1.23 billion shares changed hands in the opening minutes, with trading valued at Rp 561.75 billion ($31.7 million) across 77,874 transactions. A total of 324 stocks advanced, 115 declined, and 241 were unchanged.

Phintraco Sekuritas said investors were awaiting Indonesia's August inflation data, which is expected to rise 0.2% month-on-month, following a 0.14% deflation in July.

Annual inflation is forecast to accelerate to 3.13% in August from 2.88% in July, while core inflation is expected to edge up to 2.8% year-on-year from 2.76%.

Investors are also awaiting July trade data, with the trade balance expected to record a $0.3 billion deficit, compared with a $0.45 billion deficit in June. Import growth is projected to remain higher than export growth.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's manufacturing PMI is estimated to improve slightly to 50.5 in August from 50.2 in July.

Kiwoom Sekuritas Indonesia also highlighted the government's plan to set central government spending at Rp 3,362.2 trillion in the 2027 draft state budget, up Rp 116.7 trillion, or 3.6%, from the 2026 outlook.

However, the brokerage said the increase did not necessarily indicate strong fiscal expansion, as the room for real expansion remains relatively limited after accounting for inflation.

Globally, Kiwoom said market sentiment entering September remained cautious, with investors focusing on upcoming US economic data, particularly the JOLTS job openings report, ADP employment figures, and August nonfarm payrolls. The data will be key in shaping expectations for the Federal Reserve's policy decision at its September meeting.

“Investors also need to watch the market's seasonal pattern, given that September has historically been one of the weakest months for US stocks. The combination of high monetary policy uncertainty, inflation risks, and potential seasonal volatility could lead markets to move more defensively in the short term,” Kiwoom said.

On Wall Street on Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.70%, the S&P 500 slipped 0.33%, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 0.12%.
