Jakarta Stocks Fall as Rp 1 Share Price Rule Takes Effect
Jakarta. Jakarta Stocks fell 0.52% to 6,209 on Monday as the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) introduced a new minimum share price of Rp 1, lowering the previous floor of Rp 50 per share.
Jakarta Composite Index dropped 32 points, moving between 6,180 and 6,209 in early trading.
Data from RTI showed that 2.43 billion shares had changed hands, with a total transaction value of Rp 476.37 billion ($26.52 million) across 105,525 transactions. A total of 165 stocks rose, 386 declined and 165 remained unchanged.
Phintraco Sekuritas said investors were monitoring the IDX's new trading rules, which took effect on Monday and lowered the minimum share price on the regular and cash markets to Rp 1 from Rp 50.
Under the new rules, stocks priced between Rp 1 and Rp 10 are subject to a Rp 1 limit for both the upper auto rejection (ARA) and lower auto rejection (ARB) thresholds. For stocks priced above Rp 10, the asymmetric 15% ARB rule remains in effect until Dec. 31, 2026.
"Starting Jan. 1, 2027, the ARB rule will return to a symmetrical mechanism," Phintraco Sekuritas said.
The exchange has also removed four criteria -- criteria 1, 6, 7 and 10 -- from its Special Monitoring Board, which uses the Full Call Auction (FCA) mechanism. As a result, 92 stocks previously placed on the FCA board under those criteria have returned to their original listing boards.
"These rule changes are drawing market attention because they will alter the trading mechanism for low-priced stocks. Investors need to monitor price movements and liquidity following the implementation of the new rules," Phintraco Sekuritas said.
Beyond the new trading rules, investors will also assess several domestic economic indicators due this week, including the manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), trade balance and inflation data, all scheduled for release on Thursday.
Phintraco Sekuritas said the Jakarta Composite Index's performance this week would be influenced by a mix of global sentiment and the start of a new era of trading with a minimum share price of Rp 1.
On Wall Street, stocks closed higher on Friday, supported by gains in technology shares and lower oil prices, although US Treasury yields remained elevated. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.93%, while the S&P 500 gained 0.51% to close at 7,743.41. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.48%.
Investors are also watching developments in relations between the United States and Iran, particularly the possibility of reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Markets are awaiting the next steps in negotiations after Iran proposed that Washington return to a June memorandum of understanding, which had previously failed to produce an agreement to end the Middle East conflict, Phintraco Sekuritas said.
Meanwhile, the United States and China have agreed to extend their trade war truce until Jan. 10, 2027. The agreement had previously been scheduled to expire in November 2026.
Across Asia, markets showed mixed movements in morning trading. As of 9:20 a.m. Jakarta time, Tokyo's Nikkei was little changed at 66,366, while Seoul's Kospi fell 2.15%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.63%, while Shanghai's SSE Composite Index declined 1.11%.
