Jakarta. Indonesia’s benchmark stock index opened higher on Monday, tracking gains on Wall Street and supported by stronger domestic liquidity and a firmer rupiah.

The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) rose 49 points, or 0.58 percent, to 8,443 at the opening bell, moving within the 8,425–8,446 range.

Within the first 10 minutes of trading, turnover reached Rp 1.8 trillion ($108 million) from 5.8 billion shares traded across more than 290,000 transactions, with 302 stocks up, 210 down, and 184 unchanged.

The upbeat sentiment followed stronger October foreign exchange reserves, which climbed to $149.9 billion from $148.7 billion in September, sufficient to cover 6.2 months of imports, well above the global adequacy standard of three months.

The rupiah also strengthened to Rp 16,690 per dollar. Analysts from Phintraco Sekuritas noted that the JCI gained 2.83 percent over the past week and remains bullish in the medium to long term, though a short-term pullback is possible as it enters overbought territory.

Across the region, Asia-Pacific markets mostly advanced. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.72 percent to 50,645, South Korea’s Kospi added 0.95 percent to 3,991, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.29 percent to 26,319, and Shanghai’s SSE edged up 0.10 percent to 4,001.

On Wall Street, major indexes ended mixed on Friday, snapping a four-week winning streak as investors weighed tech earnings and the lingering US government shutdown.

The S&P 500 closed up 0.1 percent at 6,728.80, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2 percent to 46,987.10. The Nasdaq slipped 0.2 percent to 23,004.54 after a volatile session led by losses in Alphabet and Broadcom.

Investor sentiment in the US was dented by missing economic data, including employment and inflation reports, due to the ongoing shutdown. Meanwhile, a University of Michigan survey showed consumer sentiment at a three-year low and inflation expectations edging higher. Markets are now eyeing the Federal Reserve’s December meeting, with a 67 percent chance priced in for another rate cut, according to CME FedWatch.

Back home, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) suspended trading of Lotte Chemical Titan (FPNI) shares after a 175.4 percent surge in a month, citing excessive price movements.

Meanwhile, it lifted trading suspensions on Harta Djaya Karya (MEJA) and Perdana Bangun Pusaka (KONI), allowing investors to resume transactions in both stocks on Monday.
