Jakarta. Indonesia is expecting an increase in its mandatory domestic cooking oil sales following rising palm oil exports.

Indonesia has required palm oil producers to allocate a portion of their output onshore before they can clinch their export permits. The country will use the palm oil kept at home to produce the affordable cooking oil Minyakita. According to the Trade Ministry, the realized DMO meant for Minyakita production already reached at least 106,003 tons in September.

“We expect the DMO Minyakita realization to be higher than previous months by the end of September,” Trade Ministry senior official Bambang Wisnubroto was quoted as saying by the state news agency Antara on Monday.

Bambang ascribed the hike to rising palm oil exports. The government has yet to publish the September trade data.

But according to the latest report by the central statistics agency BPS, Indonesia shipped $14.79 billion worth of palm oil to foreign markets between January and July 2026. Exports totaled only $14.02 billion over the same seven-month period last year, thus marking a 5.49% increase. However, volume had dropped by nearly 1% to 13.51 million tons over the said period.

The Minyakita cooking oil aims to stabilize prices. According to Bambang, the government will push for the cooking oil to also flow into the eastern part of the country. The government reported that Minyakita sold in Papua had gone 5% beyond the price ceiling. Prices typically increase near holiday seasons when demand rises.

“We are now closely approaching the year-end holiday season. We are working on making sure cooking oil prices stay stable,” Bambang said.
