Indonesia’s Foreign Reserves Rise to $146.5B in August
Jakarta. Indonesia’s foreign exchange reserves rose to $146.5 billion at the end of August 2026, up from $145.3 billion a month earlier, supported by tax and services revenue as well as government external borrowing.
Bank Indonesia (BI) said the increase came despite government external debt payments and the central bank’s efforts to stabilize the rupiah amid continued uncertainty in global financial markets.
“The position of foreign exchange reserves at the end of August 2026 remains adequate at $146.5 billion,” Bank Indonesia Communications Department Executive Director Ramdan Denny Prakoso Ramdan said in a statement Monday.
The latest reserves level is equivalent to 5.4 months of imports, or 5.3 months of imports and government external debt payments. That is well above the international adequacy standard of around three months of imports.
BI said the reserves were sufficient to support external-sector resilience while helping maintain macroeconomic and financial system stability.
“Looking forward, Bank Indonesia believes external-sector resilience will remain strong, supported by an adequate level of foreign exchange reserves and foreign capital inflows,” Ramdan said.
He said foreign capital inflows would be supported by positive investor perceptions of Indonesia’s economic prospects and attractive investment returns.
“Bank Indonesia will continue to strengthen synergy with the government to bolster external resilience and maintain economic stability in support of sustainable economic growth,” Ramdan said.
