Indonesia's Capital Market Investor Base Hits 13 Million, Says IDX
Jakarta. The number of investors in Indonesia's capital market has reached 13 million, the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) said. Since the beginning of 2024, 863,000 new Single Investor Identification (SID) registrations have been recorded.
“Of the 13 million, 5.7 million SIDs are stock investors,” Jeffrey Hendrik, Director of Development at IDX, said in a statement on Wednesday.
Hendrik attributed the growth to various activities organized by the IDX and the Financial Services Authority (OJK), in collaboration with multiple communities, and the introduction of the IDX Mobile application. From January to May 2024, there were 6,211 capital market education activities attended by over 5.8 million participants across Indonesia.
“These activities have been instrumental in driving the growth of the Indonesian capital market investor base,” Hendrik added.
He said 2.9 million participants received education through 5,460 activities involving 2,881 capital market ambassadors. The IDX Mobile app played a significant role in these outreach and educational efforts.
“IDX promotes the use of IDX Mobile to enhance capital market literacy in Indonesia,” he said.
As of May 2024, the number of IDX Mobile users reached 154,883, a 47 percent increase from December 2023. On average, the app has gained 306 new users daily since the beginning of the year.
Hendrik also said that most of the current 5.7 million stock investors already use online trading applications.
