Indonesia, Sweden Ink Halal Certificate Agreement
Jakarta. Indonesian and Swedish halal assurance bodies have inked a halal mutual recognition agreement as the two countries seek to boost trade.
Scandinavian Halal Certification AB officially becomes the first Swedish halal certifier to be recognized in Indonesia. The deal will streamline commerce activities, as Swedish goods carrying the Scandinavian Halal Certification AB certificate will be automatically accepted in the country. It will also ensure that the said Swedish imports meet Indonesian halal labeling regulations.
“We expect that this deal will streamline cross-border halal trade without affecting the halal assurance,” Ahmad Haikal Hasan, who leads Indonesia’s halal assurance agency BPJPH, was quoted as saying in a press statement.
Indonesia will officially make halal labeling mandatory for food and cosmetics starting on October 18. Indonesia reported that its trade with Sweden totaled $872.2 million in 2025. First-half commerce amounted to $435.2 million.
