Indonesia Market Rallies to 8,118, Driven by Policy Boost
Jakarta. Indonesia’s benchmark Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed in the green on Friday, rising 47.2 points, or 0.59 percent, to 8,118. The index moved in a tight range between 8,076 and 8,118 throughout the day.
A total of 44.7 billion shares were traded with a turnover of Rp 22.5 trillion ($1.35 billion) across 2.5 million transactions. Gainers numbered 259, while 403 stocks declined and 136 were unchanged. Market capitalization stood at Rp 15,112.2 trillion.
Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said the JCI’s gain was partly fueled by optimism over the government’s stimulus package for the fourth quarter of 2025, designed to support household purchasing power and drive economic growth to the 5.2 percent target.
Chief Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto said fiscal measures, government spending, and year-end consumption incentives are expected to sustain economic momentum despite global headwinds.
Pilarmas added that Friday’s rebound also tracked gains across Asian bourses and Wall Street, even as concerns lingered over the U.S. government shutdown.
The US political deadlock has delayed funding, raising the risk of a halt in federal services and potential public sector layoffs. The US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned on Thursday that the shutdown could weigh on GDP growth, while President Donald Trump threatened sweeping layoffs to pressure Democrats in Congress.
Markets are also watching for potential breakthroughs in U.S.-China trade talks, with President Trump and President Xi Jinping set to meet later this month in South Korea. Bessent projected a “meaningful outcome” from the bilateral discussions.
Across Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 jumped 1.9 percent to 45,769.50, led by tech shares, even as unemployment climbed to a 13-month high. Hitachi surged nearly 10 percent after signing an MoU with OpenAI on cooling systems for AI data centers. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.1 percent to 26,976.37, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.5 percent.
On Wall Street, the S&P 500 inched up 0.1 percent to another record high at 6,715.35, while the Dow Jones gained 0.2 percent and the Nasdaq advanced 0.4 percent. However, the shutdown has delayed key U.S. labor market reports, adding to market uncertainty.
