Jakarta. The Indonesian government has earmarked a substantial subsidy of $455 million (Rp 7 trillion) to make electric motorcycles more affordable for buyers, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Dadan Kusdiana, the Ministry’s Secretary-General, said conventional motorcycles continue to dominate the market. The subsidy aims to bridge the price gap, making electric motorcycles a more viable option for consumers.

“The subsidy covers the sales of around 800,000 electric bikes and the conversion of 200,000 conventional motorcycles into electric,” Dadan said recently.

The government has set ambitious targets to significantly increase electric vehicle adoption, aiming to boost electric car sales to 2 million and electric motorcycle sales to 13 million by 2030.

In addition to financial incentives, the government plans to build at least 32,000 EV charging stations across the country over the next six years. Furthermore, they will facilitate upgrades in household electricity capacity to support EV recharging.

These initiatives are part of the government’s broader strategy to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions in Indonesia.
