Jakarta. The national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia recently announced it planned to add eight aircraft this year.

According to Garuda Indonesia’s president director Irfan Setiaputra, the additional aircraft include four narrow-body type Boeing 737-800NG and four wide-body 777-300ER and Airbus 330-300.

“With these additions, Garuda Indonesia will operate up to 80 aircraft by the end of 2024,” Irfan said in Jakarta on Monday.

Throughout 2023, Garuda Indonesia recorded 145,500 flights, up by 38 percent versus the previous year.

“As the fundamentals of our business performance gradually recover, we are optimistic that 2024 will be a monumental year to boost our performance,” Irfan said.

Garuda’s revenue grew by 40 percent from $2.1 billion in 2022 to $2.94 billion the following year. The company attributed the growth to soaring scheduled flights. Garuda Indonesia reported that the revenue from its scheduled flights went up from $1.68 billion to $2.37 billion. The revenue from non-scheduled flights rose 65 percent from $174.81 million to $288.03 million.
