Ex-President Jokowi to Deliver Keynote at Bloomberg’s New Economy Forum
Jakarta. Former Indonesian president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo arrived in Singapore on Tuesday to attend the 2025 Bloomberg New Economy Forum, a high-profile gathering that brings together global political and business leaders for three days of discussions on geopolitical and economic challenges.
Jokowi’s aide, Syarif Muhammad Fitriansyah, confirmed the president’s arrival, saying he was in the city-state to fulfill an invitation from the forum’s organizers. “Jokowi has arrived in Singapore to attend the Bloomberg New Economy Forum,” Syarif said on Wednesday.
The 2025 edition of the forum will run from Nov. 19 to 21 under the theme “Thriving in an Age of Extremes,” reflecting the event’s focus on navigating global uncertainty, ranging from climate volatility and political fragmentation to rapid technological disruption.
Jokowi to Deliver Keynote on Final Day
Jokowi is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech on the forum’s third and final day, Nov. 21. The invitation underscores Jokowi’s continued relevance on the world stage following the end of his decade-long presidency earlier this year.
He currently serves on the Bloomberg New Economy Global Advisory Board, a role that signals international recognition of Indonesia’s perspectives on global economic governance.
The 2025 advisory board also includes several prominent former leaders, among them former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
A Forum for Shaping Global Dialogue
The Bloomberg New Economy Forum brings together around 500 influential figures from government, finance, and industry to discuss strategies for shaping a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive global economy.
Over the past six years, the forum has established itself as a platform for conversations on geopolitics, sustainability, global health, and technology, with events frequently hosted in key emerging markets.
This year’s gathering in Singapore is expected to feature debates on global economic fragmentation, clean-energy transitions, and the future of supply chains, issues in which Indonesia, Southeast Asia’s largest economy, plays an increasingly strategic role.
