BRI to Pay Shareholders $2.8 Billion in Dividends
Jakarta. State-run bank BRI agreed on Monday to distribute a staggering Rp 43.49 trillion ($2.8 billion) in dividends, representing 85 percent of last year's net profit, to all shareholders.
The amount includes the "interim dividend payment" of Rp 8.6 trillion on January 27, BRI President Director Sunarso said after the shareholders' annual meeting in Jakarta.
The remaining 15 percent of the net profit will be held to strengthen the capital base.
BRI booked a net profit of Rp 51.5 trillion last year, a 67.15 percent rise from the figures a year earlier.
"Thankfully we have been profitable and safe. We gained Rp 51.4 trillion in profit and will distribute dividends proportionately: Rp 23 trillion to the government and another Rp 20 trillion to public shareholders," Sunarso said.
The government owns 53.19 percent of BRI shares.
Even with dividend payment accounting for 85 percent of the net profit, BRI's capital adequacy ratio will stay robust at around 20 percent for the long term, he said.
The shareholders also allowed BRI to buy back shares at a maximum of Rp 1.5 trillion to allow its employees to have a share.
