Asian Markets Rally, JCI Hovers Near All-Time High
Jakarta. Asian markets ended mostly higher on Friday after the White House confirmed that US President Donald Trump will meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping next week, sparking optimism that trade tensions between the two largest economies could ease.
Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) edged down slightly by 2.63 points, or 0.03 percent, to close at 8,271, after briefly touching an all-time intraday high of 8,351. The benchmark moved within a narrow range throughout the session amid cautious profit-taking.
Trading activity remained robust, with 28.15 billion shares worth Rp 21.97 trillion ($1.3 billion) changing hands across 2.3 million transactions. The market saw 295 gainers, 371 losers, and 143 flat stocks, bringing total market capitalization to Rp 15,264 trillion.
Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas said market sentiment improved following signs of a thaw in US–China relations, with Vice Premier He Lifeng expected to meet US Treasury Secretary Bessent and Trade Representative Greer at the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia this week.
“The market is responding positively to easing tensions between the US and China,” Pilarmas said in its research note on Friday.
On the domestic front, investors were encouraged by expectations of lower interest rates, following remarks from Finance Minister Purbaya that inflation remains under control. He said Bank Indonesia still has room to cut its benchmark rate further to 3.5 percent if inflation stays around 2.5 percent, a move that could support business competitiveness and sustain economic momentum.
Blue-chip and conglomerate-linked shares drove gains in the session, pushing the index to a fresh intraday record.
- Bank Mandiri (BMRI) rose 2.26 percent,
- Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BBRI) gained 1.57 percent,
- Unilever Indonesia (UNVR) jumped 11.95 percent,
- Bank Negara Indonesia (BBNI) climbed 3.3 percent, and
- AKR Corporindo (AKRA) advanced 8.52 percent.
Across Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 rebounded 1.4 percent to 49,299.65, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.6 percent to 26,111.14, and Shanghai Composite rose 0.6 percent to 3,947.53. South Korea’s Kospi surged 2.6 percent to a record 3,943.90, lifted by optimism over the Trump–Xi summit and gains on Wall Street.
In the US, all three major indexes closed near record highs on Thursday. The S&P 500 rose 0.6 percent to 6,738.44, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.3 percent to 46,734.61, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.9 percent to 22,941.80.
