Jakarta. Japanese technology company NTT DATA has expanded its data center capacity in Indonesia by 12 megawatts (MW) with the launch of its Jakarta 2 Annex Data Center (JKT2A), targeting growing demand for cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital transformation services.

NTT DATA announced the launch on Tuesday. Located within the NTT Global Data Centers complex in Jakarta, JKT2A expands the company’s existing JKT2 data center campus.

The facility features advanced cooling systems, integrated power infrastructure, and carrier-neutral connectivity to support enterprise, hyperscale and high-density computing workloads.

The existing JKT2 facility hosts more than 240 network service providers, the Jakarta Internet Exchange (JKT-IX), major cloud service providers and connections to strategic submarine cable systems.

Direct interconnection between JKT2 and JKT2A will allow customers to expand their digital infrastructure while retaining access to their existing networks and cloud services, the company said.

Alongside the new facility, NTT DATA introduced APN Connect, a connectivity service based on All-Photonics Network (APN) technology, which the company described as the first of its kind in Indonesia.

Built on Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) technology, the service provides high-capacity, low-latency Layer 1 connectivity between JKT2/JKT2A and JKT3, which are about 35 kilometers apart.

The service enables real-time data synchronization between facilities in different locations, supporting disaster recovery, data replication, and multi-site data center operations.

Yasuhiro Kajiki, managing director for Japan and Asia-Pacific at NTT Global Data Centers, said the opening of JKT2A was part of the company’s investment to expand capacity and integrate its data center facilities in Indonesia.

“By expanding capacity and connecting our facilities through APN Connect, we are building a more integrated and resilient data center platform,” Kajiki said in a written statement on Tuesday.

Doug Adams, president and chief executive of NTT Global Data Centers, said Indonesia was seeing strong demand for digital infrastructure amid the expansion of Southeast Asia’s digital economy.

He said JKT2A and APN Connect would strengthen the company’s ability to provide the capacity and connectivity required for cloud computing, AI and digital transformation.

JKT2A is supported by two power substations, a 2N uninterruptible power supply (UPS) architecture and backup generators configured with N+1 redundancy.

Its cooling infrastructure includes an N+1 air-cooled chiller system and an N+2 computer room air handler (CRAH) configuration.

The facility also features a Tier III-certified design, carrier-neutral connectivity that does not depend on a single network or cloud provider, and round-the-clock, multilayered physical security.

JKT2A forms part of NTT DATA’s global data center platform, which operates across several major markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
