BAIC Unveils X55 II and BJ40 Plus at GIIAS 2024

Banten. Chinese automaker BAIC is showcasing two cars at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show 2024 (GIIAS), held at ICE BSD, Tangerang, Banten from July 18-28, 2024. The Beijing-based company is presenting the BAIC X55 II and BAIC BJ40 Plus.

“We are very optimistic about the Indonesian market’s reception of BAIC. By offering globally tested, high-quality products and manufacturing credentials trusted by major automotive brands worldwide, we ensure that BAIC showcases only the best," said Dhani Yahya, Chief Operating Officer of Jio Distribusi Indonesia, the distributor of BAIC in Indonesia, on Friday.

At the event, Jio Distribusi Indonesia announced the prices of the BAIC X55 II at Rp 487 million and the BAIC BJ40 Plus at Rp 783 million.

BAIC plans to assemble three of its flagship models in Indonesia starting in the first quarter of 2025 at the new HIM facility in Purwakarta, West Java. HIM already has a factory in Pondok Ungu, Bekasi, West Java, where they currently assemble Chinese-made electric cars from Chery and Neta.

"BAIC Indonesia will occupy one production line, aiming to produce 1,680 units of the BAIC BJ40 Plus in 2025, followed by the production of the BJ30 and BAIC X55 II," according to an official statement from JIO.

The Purwakarta facility aims to assemble up to 12,000 BAIC cars per year. Additionally, BAIC plans to produce electric cars to tap into Indonesia's growing electric vehicle market.
