Jakarta. The Taiwan Technical Mission celebrated 49 years of agricultural cooperation between Taiwan and Indonesia through the event “Bridging the Past and the Future: A New Chapter of Technical Cooperation in Indonesia,” held in Jakarta on Thursday. The forum showcased ongoing projects and reflected on nearly five decades of agricultural partnership.

The event gathered senior officials from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture, members of parliament, regional government representatives, and long-term institutional partners to review the achievements of bilateral cooperation and witness the continued strengthening of agricultural ties between Taiwan and Indonesia.

Professor Dr. Yunus of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) delivered the keynote presentation, “Bridging the Past and the Future: The Impact and New Chapter of Collaboration between Hasanuddin University and the Taiwan Technical Mission in South Sulawesi.”

In his address, Yunus highlighted the success of the rice-seed development project in South Sulawesi and introduced a new maize-seed development initiative, marking a major step forward in agricultural technology and varietal innovation between Indonesia and Taiwan.

The event also featured the latest smart-farming innovations, including land-data monitoring systems and drone technology for agricultural management — reflecting the shift toward digital and precision-based farming methods.

Another session discussed:

• The Garlic and Shallot Production and Marketing Improvement Project in North Sumatra, and
• The Vegetable and Fruit Marketing System Strengthening Project in Karawang, West Java.

Agricultural school teachers and young farmer representatives also shared firsthand experiences, demonstrating Taiwan’s contribution to agricultural modernization and value-chain enhancement across Indonesia.

Beyond commemorating nearly half a century of contribution, the event reaffirmed the spirit of co-creation, shared prosperity, and mutual progress that underpins Taiwan–Indonesia agricultural cooperation.
