Standard Chartered Advances Technology, Payment Infrastructure for the Future
Jakarta. Rapid digitalization, shifting geopolitical dynamics and continuous technological breakthroughs are making it increasingly difficult for financial institutions and treasury teams to navigate changes independently, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and collaborative approach across the industry.
This was the key message delivered by Ankur Kanwar, Head of Transaction Banking & Cash Management, Singapore & ASEAN, and Global Head of Cash Structured Solutions Development at Standard Chartered, during the Indonesia Treasury Leadership Forum (TLF) 2026 on Tuesday.
“We are seeing a lot of digitalization happening across markets, a lot of geopolitical issues going on and, of course, a lot of new technologies emerging. All of this can be quite overwhelming. We at Standard Chartered cannot navigate it alone. That is why events like this are so important to us, because this is where we bring together regulators such as Bank Indonesia, clients and partners to share expertise,” Ankur said.
To address these challenges, Standard Chartered has outlined three interconnected pillars shaping the future of payments: real-time execution, greater intelligence and resilience.
To turn this vision into practical solutions, the bank is strengthening payment infrastructure through broader API integration and the adoption of the data-rich ISO 20022 standard. It is also leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics, while developing tokenized deposit platforms and integrating stablecoins for cross-border payments. These innovations are accompanied by a strong focus on cybersecurity to protect client assets amid accelerating digitalization.
“When we talk about the future of payments, it really comes down to three things: first, how payments will become more instant or real-time; second, how payments will become smarter; and third, resilience. I think all three are equally important,” he explained.
However, advanced technology alone will not deliver its full potential without addressing real operational challenges faced by clients. Through collaboration across the ecosystem, including regulators and partners, Standard Chartered remains committed to helping corporations navigate market uncertainty while unlocking new opportunities for future growth.
