Singapore Marks 61st National Day in Jakarta as Ties with Indonesia Near 60-Year Milestone
Jakarta. Singapore’s Embassy in Jakarta hosted a reception on Wednesday to mark the city-state’s 61st National Day, bringing together senior Indonesian officials, diplomats and business leaders as the two countries prepare to celebrate six decades of diplomatic relations next year.
“Singapore is more than a neighbor. We are connected by geography, history, culture, and people. Those connections continue to shape the strong friendship we enjoy today,” Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani said.
As fellow founding members of ASEAN, Indonesia and Singapore have worked together to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity, he added.
Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of the relationship, with Singapore continuing to be Indonesia’s largest source of foreign direct investment.
“Today, our cooperation goes far beyond traditional investment. We are working together in value-added industries, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, connectivity, financial services, and human capital development,” Rosan said.
The recent Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat on July 6 further demonstrated both countries’ commitment to turn opportunities into concrete projects, according to Rosan.
Rosan said Indonesia and Singapore were natural partners as the global economy places greater emphasis on supply chain resilience, energy security, technological innovation, digital infrastructure and sustainable growth.
“Indonesia offers vast opportunities in industrial development, downstream processing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and the future AI economy. Singapore brings world-class expertise in finance, technology, innovation, and international connectivity,” he said.
“Together, we can create a partnership that is not only mutually beneficial, but also contributes to ASEAN's long-term competitiveness and resilience.”
The two countries will mark 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2027, providing an opportunity to celebrate their longstanding friendship while setting the direction for the next phase of bilateral relations.
“I firmly believe that the best chapters of our partnership are still ahead of us,” Rosan said. “With trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for the future, our countries will continue to grow, innovate, and prosper together.”
The reception, hosted by Singapore’s Embassy in Jakarta, was attended by former vice presidents Jusuf Kalla and Boediono, Regional Representative Council Speaker Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, National Economic Council Chairman Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, People’s Consultative Assembly Deputy Speaker Eddy Soeparno, Constitutional Court Justice Arsul Sani, Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Hotmangaradja Pandjaitan, as well as cabinet members, diplomats and other regional leaders.
