Jakarta. Savyavasa, the luxury residential development in Jakarta's prestigious Dharmawangsa district, on Aug. 4 unveiled its Signature Residence in Tower 2—a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment designed by New York-based interior design studio Designs by Human (DBH).

Led by principal designer Joe Human, the Signature Residence brings together global design perspectives, Indonesian cultural influences, and local craftsmanship to create a home designed for contemporary living.

“The Signature Residence was conceived with everyday living in mind. The design balances openness and privacy, creating spaces that support different moments throughout the day. Now that the residence is fully furnished, prospective homeowners can experience first-hand the quality, craftsmanship and sense of comfort that define the home,” said Kristien Joe, Director of Sales and Marketing at Savyavasa.

Designs by Human envisioned the Signature Residence as a journey through five interconnected environments—the living and dining area, den, two guest bedrooms and master suite—each shaped by its own material expression and purpose, while contributing to a cohesive living experience.

In the living room, vertical timber panels are hand-engraved with a batik-inspired motif, reinterpreting a traditional reference through a contemporary geometric composition. The adjoining dining area features a commissioned artwork depicting the harvesting of Indonesian rice paddies. Developed from a hand-drawn pattern and transformed into an expansive landscape in collaboration with local fashion designer Linda Mulia, the artwork draws inspiration from the rice fields Joe Human encountered during his first visit to Indonesia. The artwork is complemented by a curated selection of decorations sourced from New York, creating an internationally informed interior grounded in its Indonesian setting. The den embraces its inward-facing character through Venetian plaster walls that introduce depth, texture, and subtle reflections as the natural light shifts throughout the day.

“It acts almost as a sensory reset,” said Joe Human. "Rather than introducing more light, we chose to embrace the room's naturally intimate character. The materiality helps create a calm and reflective environment that offers a contrast to the openness of the main living spaces."

Across the private quarters, the master suite is defined by a vibrant, two-sided painting that can be appreciated from both the bedroom and bathroom. One guest bedroom celebrates Indonesia’s natural diversity through locally crafted timber panelling depicting the country’s landscapes from above, while the other features an organic-form bed designed to complement the room's proportions and character.

Bespoke furniture and joinery pieces throughout the Signature Residence were crafted by Indonesian workshops using locally sourced hardwoods. Textiles were carefully selected from makers across Indonesia, China, France, and the United States, creating a layered material palette while maintaining a strong connection to place.

The design and production process fostered a close collaboration between the design team and local artisans, bringing together international design expertise and Indonesian craftsmanship. “I have always admired the depth of Indonesian craftsmanship and its ability to express cultural heritage through contemporary design,” said Human. “Working alongside local artisans allowed us to create a residence that feels both contemporary and enduring while celebrating the skills and traditions that make this place unique.”

Set within Savyavasa’s lush landscape in the established neighborhood of Dharmawangsa, the Signature Residence presents a rare proposition in South Jakarta: a completed, move-in-ready home that combines generous living spaces, privacy and thoughtful design, which prospective homeowners can experience first-hand.
