Jakarta. State-owned construction firm PTPP has finished the East Java Multipurpose Terminal Port project.

The company alongside the East Java Multipurpose Terminal -- a subsidiary to the International Container Terminal Services -- launched the project earlier this week. This is a foreign private project worked on by PTPP and has a contract value of Rp 767 billion.

PTPP said that the construction took place in two phases. The first part includes dredging work with a volume of 1.8 million cubic meters and the construction of a 180-meter-long jetty and a 0.9-hectare container yard for 16 months. The second part -- which lasts 18 months -- includes the construction of a 120-meter-long jetty and a 0.6-hectare container yard.

PTPP also applied some innovations in the construction process to overcome the high waves of the Lamongan waters. These innovations enabled the company to finish the project in a timely manner -- precisely on Sep. 3 -- while still prioritizing quality and safety. The East Java Multipurpose Terminal project is expected to drive the province’s economic growth.

East Java Multipurpose Terminal’s chief executive officer Patrick Chan praised PTPP for the project’s timeliness and quality.

“PTPP has done a great job on this project. … We invite businesses to consider using this port. The infrastructure and supporting equipment are ready to use. This port also boasts two harbor mobile crane units with the largest capacity in East Java,” Chan was quoted as saying in a recent press statement.

PTPP’s GM for operations of infrastructure Division 2 Indra Jadi Simanjuntak attributed the success to the great collaboration. “There have been good collaborations between East Java Multipurpose Terminal as the employer, Haskoning Indonesia as the employer representative, PTPP as the main contractor, and other parties including the port authority KSOP and the local communities,”  Indra said.

PTPP president director said that this became one of the foreign private projects that the company had handled so far. This is also a multipurpose port with the largest harbor crane in East Java.

“This project shows that PTPP can not only finish the public-funded national strategic projects, but also private-owned projects with good quality and zero accidents in a timely manner. This shows that we can also meet the standards of foreign owners,” Novel said.

Going forward, PTPP will continue to improve its competence to increase competitiveness and vows to complete any project entrusted to the company -- both the national strategic projects and the private-owned ones.

“We hope that this port in the future can benefit all parties and contribute to advance trade and the Indonesian economy," Novel said.
