Jakarta. Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) continues to raise Indonesia’s Red and White flag across global seas through its tanker fleet operating on various international routes. The company reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining Indonesia’s maritime reputation by ensuring all vessels and crew meet internationally recognized safety and competency standards.

“Sailing under the Indonesian flag means carrying the nation’s name,” said PIS Fleet Director Muhammad Irfan Zainul Fikri in a recent statement. “That’s why we equip all PIS ships and crew with skills and discipline that not only meet but exceed global maritime safety standards.”

To ensure safe and reliable operations, PIS implements an integrated Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) management system across its entire fleet. The framework aligns not only with domestic regulations from the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), the Energy and Mineral Resources Directorate General, the Environment and Forestry Ministry, and the Transportation Ministry, but also with international benchmarks such as those set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), and Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

As of 2025, 84 PIS-owned vessels have passed the Ship Inspection Report Programme (SIRE), ensuring compliance with global tanker safety standards. The company also applies the Tanker Management and Self-Assessment (TMSA) system, established by the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF), as a reference for HSSE compliance in international terminals.

PIS maintains rigorous oversight through safety audits, routine inspections, emergency response simulations, and continuous HSSE culture-building programs. Every PIS seafarer undergoes extensive training and safety certifications to ensure professionalism and readiness under all conditions.

“Every PIS sailor is trained not only to meet international requirements but also to build resilience and a strong safety-oriented mindset,” Irfan added.

The company has achieved a TMSA management score of 3.05, reflecting its commitment to improving operational and safety management systems.

Through the consistent application of world-class safety and competency standards, PIS continues to demonstrate that Indonesian-flagged vessels can compete and gain recognition in the global maritime industry.

“As Pertamina Group’s Subholding Integrated Marine Logistics, PIS is committed to becoming a world-class integrated energy logistics and transportation company,” Irfan said. “We will keep driving sustainable innovation, implementing ESG principles, and developing top talents to strengthen Indonesia’s energy resilience while representing the nation proudly on international routes.”
